Create your space by adding colour…
There is an overwhelming amount of colours to choose from when deciding on interior painting, so its hard to know where to begin. When considering an interior paint job… You should have the rest of your room in place, or if its a new renovation, you should have a good idea of how its going to look. Think about the floor, if it’s going to be hardwood, carpet, tile, etc. What colour are the blinds, light fixtures, and furniture? Picking colour is about coordination as much as its about personal taste.
You can be bold with colour, but don’t clash: try and pick shades that blend well with other elements of the room. Earthy tones can be very appealing in modern and classic rooms alike. Off-whites are great for rooms that you want to remain light, yet a well-chosen off-white can still create a warm and inviting space.
If you want to make a statement, it can be rewarding to go beyond standard colour schemes: You can try painting the trim in the same colour as the walls, and picking a bold complementary colour for the doors as an accent. You can even flip expectations on their head and put colour on the trim with light walls. It has become en vogue to paint colour on the ceiling too: an off-white or even a bright red can work in ways you might not expect.
Its a good idea to check out some design magazines and blogs for inspiration. Consult you local paint store staff for specific advice, and to learn more about paint products. And the best way to avoid a colour mistake is to get sample pots and put them on your walls before you or your painting contractor starts painting!
